Are you the type of person that stays up late watching videos and movies? (Got to admit, I’m one of them). Well, there are plenty of other ways of going about doing things that DOESN’T include staring at your screen.
Why can’t I watch Netflix until I fall asleep? You may be questioning. Well, for one thing, the brightness of your screen makes your brain more alerted and awake than ever so it’s going to have to keep you awake for 4+ hours that could lead you to have lack of sleep and increase health issues in the future. Scary right?
I once compared reading vs. watching videos on my phone. Turning off my phone, reading a book for an hour or more and sleeping early. After waking up, I felt more productive and well rested than me binge-watching movies on my laptop and waking up feeling grumpier and less motivated to do things throughout the day.
But for now, if you want to keep your sleep schedule stable and be well rested, here are ten things to do before binge watching movies late at night.
1. Bath or Shower
I know that taking a hot shower helps me fall asleep. It’s another excellent way to detox. I usually like to take showers before bedtime, so I can cuddle in my blanket and pillows, feeling all fresh and clean. Also, take your time and add essentials like bath bombs, scents, soups or things to keep your bath and yourself smelling like sweet lavender?
It doesn’t have to be a full spring cleaning. Just a little dusting over here and over there, a simple putting away things that need to be put away or organizing your bookshelf. You’ll free up more productive time, and a bonus is that you will feel so exhausted that you HAVE to get to bed and sleep.

3. Update Your Resume
When you have been happily employed at the same job for a couple years it is all too easy to neglect your resume. You may be nominated to attend a conference in your field, want to pick up side work or be put in the running for a promotion at work.

5. Listen to an Audiobook or Podcast
As long as you’re not always staring at the screen, why not plug in your earphones and listen to your favorite audiobook or podcast? Let them do the talking while you listen. Same with music, listen to a soft rhythm or your playlist that isn’t upbeat. Fall asleep if you want, there are no more straightforward rules than to hear and fall asleep.
I love listening to self-help books on Audible when I have some time alone to focus on me. 6. Have a Cup of Tea or Warm Milk
Plenty of different teas will help you fall asleep quicker. It’s pretty much like a remedy for “how to fall asleep quicker” (well not really), but it does, in fact, help you fall asleep. Try drinking Chamomile tea, Herbal tea or Almond milk. You don’t have to sit there sipping your drinks. You can always read a book or magazine, do a puzzle, or anything pretty much anything above.

7. Plan the Day For Tomorrow
Do you have plenty of stuff on your schedule that you need to do for the upcoming days? Of course, you do! Why not be ready smart and plan the day for tomorrow or week? You have plenty of time at night to come up with plans and wake up in the morning to quickly get right on it.
If you have never meditated before, you totally should! It’s one of the top reasons for self-care. Meditation helps decrease stress & anxiety, boost emotional intelligence, feel calmer, clear your mind, becoming aware of reality and at least benefit from less health risk in the future. Take about 2, 5, 10 or 30 mins at a time every night.
9. Read a Book
Of course, this has to be on the list. Reading is more likely to make you sleepy, feel like you’re doing something with your life, boost your intelligent and ending the day on a good note. I love to read novels before I go to bed so I can enjoy something after a long day.
Write down anything about your day. A reflection on what happened and how you feel can lead you to sleep well without having to have all these thoughts jumbled in your mind on what Sally did today, or Morgan did yesterday. It’s a great way to handle your stress and wake up with a brand-new day ahead.
There are always other ways to do things instead of watching your screen. The list is unlimited and gets you feeling more positive about yourself as well as having a balanced sleep schedule.
