8 Things Blogging Pros do to Get Millions of Views Every Month

Article By: Jonnie Davis

Driving traffic to your blog can be a daunting task, it requires lots of time and dedication. If you are thinking about starting a blog, this tutorial will help you start a blog today. You will get a FREE domain for a full year! I was able to quit my job and blog full time, all within my first year of blogging and it has been one of the best decisions I could have made. Despite my fearsI am pleased with my decision to start a blog a year ago. I invested less than $100 to start my blog with Siteground, and now I am making over $3,000 a month. Now, not only do I have total freedom to work from anywhere in the world, but I also get to spend more time with my friends and loved ones.

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, We created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for low, starting at only $3.95 per month.

For those who have already begun their blogging journey, here are eight ways to increase your blog traffic according to blogging pros.

1. They Are Self-Hosted

We recommend starting with a self-hosted site using WordPress.org. If you don’t know the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com, the significant difference lies in who’s hosting a website.

WordPress.org offers more flexibility and users can easily adjust every feature to their liking. Significant benefits of using WordPress.org are that users can add an e-commerce plugin if they are looking to open up stores and sell items. They can also put ad’s on their website one thing you can not do on WordPress.com. They can also accept online payments through PayPal. This feature also lets you monitor your site’s progress with tools such as Google Analytics so you can track your customers and visitors to create future campaigns.

The first thing you’ll need to do to set up your self-hosted blog on WordPress.org is select your domain name and hosting package. We recommend getting set up with Siteground. It takes just $14.95 to register a new domain through SiteGround

SiteGround offers excellent hosting, including WordPress hosting, Siteground has incredible customer service and very affordable prices. If you want to start a WordPress for as less as possible, SiteGround is a really great option.  If you’re a new blogger in search of hosting, I highly recommend getting set up with SiteGround.

SiteGround is one of the best hosting providers, which offers excellent packages and easy WordPress hosting for both amateur and professional bloggers.

It is a great option to choose if you are looking forward to starting a cheat WordPress site. The beginner plan typically costs just $3.95 per month, and you can lock in their rates for three years.

2. They Have An Appealing Unique Web Design

Investing in a unique design is going to be what makes your blog stand out from the rest. It doesn’t necessarily matter what type of design you have whether it has bright colors or is minimalistic with neutral colors. You want to have a model that is easy to navigate, and personal to you. Using a free theme will work when you first get started, but after a while, you will want to invest in a design that is going to grow your blog’s brand. I started off with a free design because I was on a budget. A year later I updated my design, and I immediately saw a rise in my traffic.

If you are on a budget, there are a lot of affordable websites to purchase a theme; my favorite is Creativemarket they have tons of beautiful designs for a very reasonable price. I bought my first ever theme from Creativemarket, and I paid less than $50! I no longer use the theme, but I used it for a very long time and loved it you can check it out here. If you are on a more flexible budget, a good route would be to hire a designer and a developer to create a unique design. You can then work together with them to create something you love, and that you are proud to call yours.

3. They Write Helpful Content + Have Visible Share Buttons

Simply create content that is somehow helpful to your readers. When you create useful material, it is more likely to be shared among social media because it adds value to someone’s life. Your readers will be more likely to pin and bookmark your content for later and also share it with their friends. They can’t share your content if there are no share buttons, so make sure you have visible share buttons in at least two places. I use the Sumo plugin that allows you to create customized share buttons. The buttons you see on the left side of the screen as you scroll down are thanks to Sumo. They also have a ton of other helpful tools that can be used to grow your website’s traffic so definitely check them out here

4. They Create A Strong Social Media Presence

It is a considerable investment to get your name out there on social media, because of all the time and push it takes to get people to follow you and engage. Having a social media following will help you to grow your blog, and assist you in getting organic traffic.

There are a lot of not authentic ways to gain followers out there. I would recommend steering away from those apps, and follower trains, they won’t help you increase organic traffic. With that being said your following won’t grow overnight by the thousands it will take time. Being your authentic self is the best way to gain followers that follow you because they genuinely enjoy your content.

Being most of us have full-time jobs sometimes time will become our most significant investment. There are social media schedules like Tailwind (affiliate link) (Pinterest scheduler), Twuffer (Twitter scheduler), and Later (Instagram scheduler) that can help you save a little time when you first get started. Not to mention keeping up with so many social sites can be overwhelming. It can be hard to manually post every day that is why I recommend signing up for social media schedules. If you want to cut your blogging task in half, be sure to check out this post  The 10 Top Tools You Need to Run Your Business and Blog.

5. They Use Pinterest SEO

If you are not already utilizing Pinterest to grow your blog, you need to get on it right away. I created a more in-depth post on How You Can Use Pinterest to Grow Your Blog and BusinessBe sure to check that post out first and then you can add on Pinterest SEO.

When you scroll through your Pinterest dashboard, you have probably noticed your pins no longer show up in chronological order. Instead, Pinterest now has a smart feed that uses its algorithm to figure out the kind of content that you are most interested in, and that is what will show up on your Pinterest feed.

To make sure your pins get seen by the “smart feed” you need to be sure to use Pinterest SEO. By using Pinterest SEO, even users who do not follow you will get to see your pins. First things first you need to make sure your website is verified, and sign up for rich pins. When you have rich pins, which I highly recommend you get. Pinterest will have your pin description under all of your images. Adding text to your image will help your image to stand out even more. Pinterest users will automatically know what to expect when they click on your post. Another way to utilize Pinterest SEO is to make sure your image names, board descriptions, pin descriptions, and Pinterest profile all include relevant keywords. Pinterest SEO is key to making sure your Pinterest profile gets optimized, and in return will bring massive traffic to your blog.

6. They Re-pin old post + Share Post on Social Media

A big mistake that new bloggers make is forgetting about their old post. Schedule an update on Facebook, post to Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, and then pin it again. Revive Old Post is a great plugin that will help you with sending out automatic tweets linking to and promoting your old posts on Twitter and Facebook. Tailwind is also another great app that allows you to schedule your pins. It gives you an insight into your analytics where you can see which pins and boards are performing the best, but we will get to that in another post. Scheduling my pins to post automatically has changed everything. Don’t be afraid to re-pin old post and delete pins that are not performing well you never know they may go viral years later. That is why it is imperative to update old post with Pinterest friendly images.

7. They Create Roundup Post + Interlink Posts

A great way to bring attention to older post good idea is to create a roundup post. What this means is you will create a blog post where you round up and link up your best content. For example, your top spring beauty post, best blogging tips, etc. This way your new readers can see your old content all conveniently in one place.

8. They Are Consistent

Growing your blog and getting traffic is a lot of work. It takes time and lots of effort. A lot of people give up after a while because they don’t see immediate results. Be consistent and patient you won’t see results overnight, but you will eventually get there. I didn’t start seeing any real traffic until a year into my blog. Whatever you decide on make sure it is something you love, so you don’t burn out down the line and get bored. There are so many topics you can choose.

You will learn while you go, so don’t be intimidated by other experienced bloggers.

The last two are essential for bloggers. Without creating a consistent schedule and working with other bloggers, you might as well give up. It takes time to find out what works for you, so trying a little bit of everything helps.

I think the biggest thing I have learned from is number eight. Most bloggers I have known are super helpful and are looking out for each other. There are those who aren’t. But those who are can help more than almost anything else. They have been where you are and can help you see into the future.

I am nowhere near a million page views total, let alone that many in a single month. But I am starting to see my efforts pay off when it comes to engaging with other bloggers, building my social media presence, and consistent publication of new content. One day I hope I will be able to say that I am getting those high levels of traffic 🙂

This was particularly helpful and encouraging. We’ve been blogging almost 10 months and I had been super excited about the journey until we got to this YouTube rules change. I have been thrown off our regular post and promotion cycle, because every waking minute is being spent trolling for subscribers! 😫 We only have 3 weeks and I am freaking out because we are so close, yet far enough away to miss the mark! 😕 Your advice helps me with my problem too, since maybe I should use our social media platforms more to drive traffic to our channel … Thanks for sharing!

    February 16, 2018

This is all excellent advice. I think the part that resonated with me the most was about *patience*. Blogs do not grow overnight. It really does take time, dedication, commitment and investment to get and sustain results. It’s hard to remember that when you’re in the thick of it. This was a great reminder for me!

Connecting with other bloggers is something I didn’t do when I first started my blog on my website (mainly because I just didn’t know any or how to find them!) but making those connections is super important like you’ve pointed out! Another thing I haven’t done yet is create a post round up — definitely something I’m going to do as I have many older blog posts that I could revive with this method!

I was wondering about the part that you said about leaving a comment and leaving a link to your site, I’ve heard so many mixed views on this and people thinking that it’s tacky and rude to leave a link back.
